Do You Experience FOMO? SAP wants to fix that
According to Wikipedia, FOMO stands for “Fear of Missing Out” and describes “a pervasive apprehension that others might be having rewarding experiences from which one is absent”. This social angst is characterized by the need to remain continually connected with what others are doing.
Back in the dark ages when I started working with SAP, having easy access to information was unheard of. There was www.SAP.com and SAP Help Online, but that was about it. I often tell the story that the idea for my first book “Teach Yourself SAP 24 Hours” in 1999 was conceived due to the lack of information available on how to use SAP. Now, however, the opposite is true. There is so much SAP information available online and in social media that it is hard to keep up with it all. It’s easy to experience FOMO.
SAP and SuccessFactors have recognized this challenge and they have created a free learning series where you can go to stay in the know. As a result, they recently launched a free innovative learning platform called openSAP.
I have enrolled in my first openSAP course called “An Introduction to SuccessFactors Solutions”. And although I hold formal training certificates for many SuccessFactors courses (including the paid version of “Introduction to SuccessFactors” class and a certification for SuccessFactors Workforce Analytics), I thought it would be interesting to see what the content was about.
My FOMO paid off. The course lasts five weeks and can be attended at your convenience online. I have just completed week one and it was led by Steven Hunt, Senior Vice President, Customer Value at SAP (@steventhunt). The first week of the class focused on “What is HCM and Why Does It Matter”. Although not a very technical topic (you will see no SuccessFactors screens in week 1), it gave perhaps the best overview of where we are at in the HR world and why the technology required is relevant and important to the business. Steve is a great communicator and he uses real-world examples to explain the more complex topics.
For those who wish to stay in the know and want to learn at their own convenience, this is a great place to start. I suggest you check it out.
